God of Tribes

The Birth of Kurzal:

The birth of Kurzal is, like many Orc tales, a simple affair. The Orcs maintain that he was a mighty Orcish warrior with a sword 3 feet long, and had fought giants from birth. He rode upon mighty sea serpents and wrestled with beasts of the plains. Seeking a challenge, he walked from Ianis to the outer planes, arriving with nothing but his sword and his wits. He bested every god in single combat until he fought Collanus, the God of battle. Finally defeated, Collanus did not kill Kurzal, but instead helped him to his feet, and Kurzal was born. (This tale cannot, strictly speaking, be true as Orcs did not exist until Kurzal birthed them, but any efforts to argue the point have been met with sudden and expected violence.)

Appearance:

Kurzal is inflexible in his appearance. He will always appear as a great warrior clad in leathers, a mighty sword in hand. Pouches abound on his armor and it is said that Kurzal could travel the length and breadth of the universe without once stopping for supplies. Where some contention is raised however is in his face. Orcs will see a mighty orc. While anyone and anything else will see a bearded man. More than one fight has been a result of this debate.

Temperament:

Kurzal is a hard God, believing in strength and survival above all else. But more than that he is bitter. Kurzal created the orcs to be his chosen people but by virtue of being a younger god of lesser power and Orcish actions during the war, they have been cast out of mainstream society. Kurzal has taken this highly personally and so sees all other races on Ianis as weak and sees the Gods as his enemies. Indeed, even in the brief war against Jurdar, Kurzal only joined when it was clear the war would not be ending soon. Now that Ianis enjoys relative peace, he sees his sole goal as raising the orcs as high as he can, crafting plots and schemes to increase their standing and power.

Worship:

Kurzal, long ago, was worshiped by all races as a God of unity, strength and survival. As cities were built and societies crafted, he fell from favor. Now, no race worships Kurzal save the orcs. His priests are reportedly powerful warriors, some wielding equally powerful magics. They go among their people as nomads, preaching strength and unity; against things that aren’t orcs that is. Not much else is known about Orc religion, though rumors tell of particularly powerful priests who can on occasion draw together separate tribes under a common banner.
